Factor Design Build Featured in Colorado Homes & Lifestyles Magazine

The Factor Design Build team was proudly featured in Colorado’s leading home design and interior decorating resource, Colorado Homes & Lifestyles in an article entitled, “A Fateful Family Home in Golden.” The piece highlights Factor’s expansive renovation work on a mid-century style house in Golden’s Applewood neighborhood. The homeowners decided to make the move from their well-loved spot in Denver’s Highlands neighborhood upon discovering their family would grow from four to five in the coming year.

In collaboration with the homeowners, Factor Design Build got to work reimagining many different aspects of the house from the floor plan and height of some rooms to creating new rooms by repurposing underused space. It was very important to everyone on the team to maintain the character and charm of this mid-century modern home while updating, modernizing, and increasing its functionality for the growing family.

One key upgrade that Factor made to the home was to replace the original windows with wood-clad, Nano windows. These windows increase the energy efficiency of the home while staying true to the mid-century roots in both the aesthetic look and feel. The team also updated and modernized the home’s layout by moving a back stair to the center of the house and carving out space for a new master bathroom.

With the homeowner’s vision at the heart of the project, the team decided to vault the ceiling in the living room in order to create a more open, airy space and draw parallels to the beautiful natural world just beyond the living room walls. Another unique and thoughtful improvement to the living room was the handcrafted fireplace mantel, made of cold rolled steel. The patina of this custom piece grows over time and adds a contemporary yet sleek feel to the entertaining hub of the home.

The Factor team completely remodeled and customized the kitchen and bathroom. Each detail in the kitchen was carefully planned out, from where utensils and dishes would be housed before even purchasing the cabinets to the Carrara marble countertop across from the leathered, absolute black countertops. The new kitchen would maximize the use of the space for a busy, active family while maintaining the design ethos of the rest of the home.

It’s clear in the Colorado Homes & Lifestyle article that the homeowners worked very closely with Factor Design Build to craft their forever home– the space they’ll live in and love as their children grow and the neighborhood flourishes. The Factor team was honored to collaborate with such incredible, passionate homeowners. Read the full Colorado Homes & Lifestyle article then explore more photos of the Applewood completed project.
