With businesses working from home during the COVID-19 pandemic, we’ve been hearing many people considering a home office remodel. And if you don’t have an office space at your home, you may be wishing you did right now! This space in your home is a sanctuary at times and becomes very important. While this room may seem simple, there are 4 questions to start your home office remodel:
1) How are things arranged?
Considering the arrangement of desks, outlets, and more is important in any room, but especially so in your home office. Take an extra second picking out a desk location as you’re going to spend a large amount of time in this spot. Do you want the desk looking out a window? Are there enough windows in the room? Are there enough outlets? Are you going to have cables running everywhere or will it be a quick, organized plugin? Thinking about these questions ahead of time will make your office a more comfortable and convenient place to work.
2) Is there enough storage?
It’s much easier to be in a home office when it is clean. And it is easier to keep clean if there is plenty of storage space. Many home offices don’t have a large amount of square footage, so you may have to get creative. Think vertically and horizontally when it comes to cabinets. Your design team will be able to present ideas to maximize storage in your space.
3) What colors do I want in my office?
Similarly, since you will be in this office frequently, make sure the colors are right for you. Colors can have different effects on your mood. For example, warm colors like red, orange, or yellow create energy and optimism. Blue, however, will make you feel calm or soothed. Make sure to give some extra thought to what you’re looking for in your home office.
4) How do I want to light my home office?
Straining your eyes in poor lighting is not an option for your home office. You need to be able to focus for long periods of time. Natural lighting is always a great option for your home office. But depending on the location of your office in your home, that may not be an option. Your design team will help advise if they think it is enough lighting for space or how to improve it.
It may seem overwhelming starting the remodel process in your home office, especially with so much else going on. But your design team is here to help and we’ll make sure all your office is exactly what you need.
